WASHINGTON, D.C., October 21, 2013 – Becker & Poliakoff today announced the appointment of veteran government relations consultant Amanda Wood as a Senior Government Relations Consultant in the firm’s Washington, D.C. office.
Ms. Wood, who represents municipal, corporate and nonprofit clients, brings to Becker & Poliakoff experience as legislative aide on Capitol Hill and nine years in government relations in Washington, D.C.
Ms. Wood’s primary focus is assisting clients with federal funding needs. In addition, for private sector clients, she provides sales team training and helps them identify and pursue funds for local government acquisition needs.
Prior to starting her consulting career, Ms. Wood served as Legislative Director to Florida Senator Bob Graham, where she was responsible for developing and implementing the Senator’s legislative agenda and strategy.
While serving as the Senator’s chief advisor on federal appropriations, she worked closely with representatives from Florida cities, counties, educational institutions, nonprofit organizations, and state agencies to advocate for projects ranging from infrastructure improvements to research and cultural projects.
At the Ferguson Group in Washington, where she also worked, Ms. Wood specialized in securing federal funding, authorizations, policy, and regulatory changes for public sector, private sector and not-for-profit clients.
She also worked as a legislative assistant for the Miccosukee Tribe of Indians of Florida.
Ms. Wood is a graduate of Georgetown University, where she received a B.S., Foreign Service. She is a longtime board member and former President of the Florida State Society, an organization that brings together Floridians who live and work in Washington, D.C., and served as Co-chair of the 2013 Florida Inaugural Ball Committee.
