Michael Góngora is the lead Community Association Litigator in the Miami office. His experience representing community associations includes handling various contracts, association declarations, litigation and disputes that may arise from these and other issues. He was a partner in his own firm in Miami Beach  for several years before joining Becker, where he also handled commercial, municipal and family law cases, including same-sex marriage matters. Mr. Góngora is a fully bilingual (Spanish/English) attorney and was previously a Certified Family Mediator by the Florida Bar. Mr. Góngora is also one of only 190 attorneys statewide who is a Board Certified Specialist in Condominium and Planned Development Law.

EXPERIENCE

Michael represents community association clients of all types including condominium, homeowner and cooperative associations where he serves as day-to-day general counsel. He oversees commercial litigation matters related to community association clients and others, including:

  • breach of contract disputes, breach of governing documents, declaratory actions, injunctive actions and both prosecuting and defending lawsuits.
  • representing clients before local governing boards and Special Masters with regarding to code compliance violations and zoning matters.
  • handling of arbitration cases before the Department of Business and Professional Regulation.
  • providing legal opinions impacting community associations and attending meetings and special meetings

PROFESSIONAL / COMMUNITY ACTIVITIES

A very active member of Miami Dade County’s civic, charitable, business and legal communities, Mr. Góngora served three terms on the Miami Beach Commission (2017–2021). In 2021, he was appointed by the Miami-Dade County Board of County Commissioners to serve as a member of the Board of Rules and Appeals. He is the former Chairman of the Miami Beach Latin Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors and former Chairman of ECOMB – the Environmental Coalition of Miami & the Beaches. He also was elected as President of the Miami Beach Bar Association in 2016 for a second term. For all of his service, Michael has been recognized by numerous elected officials and publications, including twice being awarded the Key to the City of Miami Beach. In 2022, Michael was presented with the Best Citizen Bronze Award by the Miami Beach Chamber of Commerce as part of the organization’s Better Beach Awards.
