On March 18, Governor Rick Scott signed a bill making it official – a statue of civil-rights leader and educator Mary McLeod Bethune will replace the current statue of a Confederate general as a representative of Florida in the U.S. Capitol. Yolanda Cash Jackson, Mario Bailey and our entire lobbying team in Tallahassee led the push to make Bethune’s statue the first African-American woman in Statuary Hall.
