Bio

Karyan C. San Martano is a bilingual (English/French) attorney in Becker’s Community Association Practice Group, focusing her practice exclusively on the representation of condominium associations, homeowners’ associations, and cooperatives in transactional, operational, and corporate matters. Ms. San Martano serves clients primarily located throughout Southeast Florida in Broward, West Palm Beach and Miami-Dade Counties. Her experience as corporate general counsel includes providing legal analysis of governing documents, statutes and case law to associations and advising of options and providing recommended course of action, preparing and assisting with board member elections and other meetings, preparing contracts, addendums, and modifications and assisting in contractual negotiations, and providing legal and practical advice on day-to-day disputes between associations and owners and other operational issues.

In addition to her role as general corporate counsel to community association clients, Ms. San Martano has taught a number of courses and webinars to board members and managers, including Knowledge is Power: Navigating New Florida Condo Laws, Understanding Our Bylaws, HOA/Condo Board Member Certification, and more. She has also authored many articles on a wide variety of subjects related to community associations. She served as part of the 2024 Legislative Guide Editorial Board, which prepared Becker’s 2024 Legislative Guidebook.

Prior to joining Becker, Ms. San Martano was a trial court law clerk for the Fifteenth Judicial Circuit of Florida for two years before joining Becker. She is a graduate of the University of Florida and of the George Washington University Law School. During law school, she interned at the Environmental Defense Fund, the Environmental Action Center and the U.S. Department of the Interior, Office of Inspector General.
