News of a “condo blacklist” is making waves across South Florida, particularly among condo owners. America’s most prominent mortgage firm, Fannie-Mae’s alleged confidential blacklist includes hundreds of Florida condos that are ineligible for mortgage financing. The blacklist is based on issues such as inadequate or insufficient insurance coverage, deferred maintenance or unaddressed critical repairs, inadequate funding for reserves, and/or structural or construction issues, such as mold or water intrusion.

The blacklist makes it harder for condo owners to sell their properties or get loans for repairs.  Allison Hertz, a shareholder in Becker’s Community Association Practice, sat down with CBS12 News to discuss what this means for condo owners, who are already facing a challenging situation between the insurance crisis and stricter structural integrity laws.
