Overview

Ed Whitson is an attorney in Becker’s Business Litigation practice, where he represents banks, financial institutions, corporations, and other clients in complex commercial disputes, bankruptcy matters, and creditors’ rights issues. With a practice that spans both litigation and transactional matters, Ed delivers strategic, business-focused solutions to clients navigating high-stake financial and commercial challenges.

Ed advises clients on a wide range of bankruptcy and insolvency matters, including workout negotiations, asset recovery, syndicated loan disputes, and structured finance issues. He prepares true sale opinions for Bankruptcy Remote Entities (BREs) and defends lenders in fraudulent transfer litigation in both bankruptcy and state courts. Ed also represents banks and loan servicers in litigation involving federal and state regulatory statutes, including the FDCPA, FCCPA, TCPA, TILA, RESPA, SCRA, and related commercial and consumer claims.

In addition to his financial litigation practice, Ed maintains an active real estate litigation practice, representing corporate clients in landlord-tenant disputes, lending matters, and development-related litigation. He also counsels healthcare industry clients—including hospitals, physician groups, and other providers—on acquisitions, asset sales, and other complex transactions.

Ed regularly publishes and presents on developments in bankruptcy, insolvency, and related areas of law and is actively involved in the American Bankruptcy Institute (ABI) and the Turnaround Management Association (TMA).
