Women’s History Month–Meet the Women of Becker: Marilyn Fong

In honor of Women’s History Month, Becker is celebrating the incredible women whose expertise, leadership, and dedication elevate both our firm and the clients we serve. This year, we’re proud to highlight the achievements of longstanding women team members across various departments, recognizing their impact and contributions over the years.

Marilyn Fong has served as Becker’s Chief Operating Officer for the past 12 years and is pivotal in the firm’s day-to-day operations and long-term strategy. Marilyn’s leadership touches nearly every aspect of the organization, from overseeing standard operating procedures (SOPs) and contract negotiations to managing recruiting, employee relations, and firm-wide initiatives. Her dedication and expertise ensure that Becker operates efficiently and effectively, supporting both our team and clients at the highest level.

  1. What inspired you to pursue a career at Becker/in law?
Becker appealed to me because of the challenge of reconstructing the HR department from the ground up. I also saw growth opportunities in other departments, such as operations. Finally, Becker was the only mid-size firm at the time that had females on the management committee.
  2. Is there a woman—past or present—who has inspired you in your career or life?
My mom has always been the driving force in all I do, personally and professionally.
  3. If you could have lunch with any woman in history, who would it be and why?
This is a tough question. There are so many great women: Mother Teresa, Cleopatra, and Princess Diana, to name a few.
  4. What’s a mantra or quote that motivates you daily?
Work hard and treat everyone with respect.
  5. What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever received?
Give everyone the benefit of the doubt until proven otherwise.
  6. What’s one thing people might be surprised to learn about you?
    I have a 43-year-old daughter.
