WEST PALM BEACH, FL, November 16, 2011 – Becker & Poliakoff today announced that firm shareholder and Board Certified Construction Law attorney William J. Cea has been certified by the Supreme Court of Florida as a Circuit Mediator.  In order to become Certified as a Mediator, applicants must fulfill Court prescribed standards for training, educational background and moral character.

The role of the mediator is to reduce obstacles to communication, assist in the identification of issues and exploration of alternatives, and otherwise facilitate voluntary dispute resolution. The mediator is a neutral and impartial third person who acts to encourage and facilitate the resolution without prescribing what it should be. It is an informal and non-adversarial process intended to help disputing parties reach a mutually acceptable agreement.

Mr. Cea, who specializes in Construction Law & Litigation, has been practicing in Florida since 1992. He has broad experience in various litigation matters including construction defects, governmental contracts, business disputes, landlord-tenant, community association, and trusts and estates.

A former assistant city attorney, Mr. Cea also works closely with governmental clients and represents private clients seeking government contracts through the public procurement process. Mr. Cea primarily practices in the firm’s West Palm Beach office.
