Becker Achieves Complete Trial Victory for Charitable Foundation in Lakewood, NJ

Becker & PoliakoffBecker won a jury trial victory on behalf of its client Services for Hidden Intelligence, LLC (SHI), a charitable foundation in Lakewood, New Jersey.

The criminal charges brought by the state of New Jersey against SHI and the rabbi in charge of SHI ,who was a co-defendant, included corruption of public resources, theft by unlawful taking or disposition, financial facilitation of criminal activity and misapplication of entrusted property stemming from SHI’s support of a non-sectarian school for children with profound disabilities known as the School for Children with Hidden Intelligence.

There was a two-year investigation into the matter.

Late on February 27, 2019, after several days of jury deliberation, SHI was acquitted of all charges. The rabbi in charge of SHI, who was represented by co-counsel, was convicted of two offenses while acquitted of all fraud charges.

Becker’s veteran litigator James J. Mahon lead the trial team and Vincenzo M. Mogavero was second chair representing SHI in its complete victory. As a result of the acquittal, SHI may now resume its charitable work in the Lakewood community.
