Becker & Poliakoff’s Steven B. Lesser Appointed to Leadership Roles at American and Florida Bar Associations

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – August 21, 2015 – Steven B. Lesser, a shareholder at the Fort Lauderdale, Fla., office of law firm Becker & Poliakoff and chair of the firm’s Construction Law and Litigation Practice Group, has been appointed by the President of the American Bar Association, Paulette Brown, to serve on the American Bar Association’s Standing Committee on Membership. Lesser is one of nine members selected nationwide to serve on this committee. He has also been appointed to serve on The Florida Bar Association’s Board of Legal Specialization and Education.

The ABA’s Standing Committee on Membership is tasked with increasing membership and providing value to its members to enable the ABA to maintain its position as the national representative of the legal profession.

The Florida Bar’s Board of Legal Specialization and Education administers the Bar’s certification plan and provides oversight over all 24 certification committees that each focus upon a specific practice area.  As part of its mission, the BLSE helps identify for the general public and the profession those   attorneys who have substantial experience and have demonstrated special knowledge, skills, and proficiency in certified areas of practice and professionalism and ethics in the practice of law.

Lesser has a long history of providing educational opportunities to lawyers through lecturing, writing and dedicated service to both the American Bar and The Florida Bar Associations. “As part of my commitment to give back to the legal profession and support the ongoing practice of law, I am honored to have been selected for these important leadership roles within the American and Florida Bar Associations and look forward to applying my knowledge and expertise to help advance their goals,” Lesser said. His extensive involvement with both associations includes serving as immediate past chair of the ABA’s Forum on Construction Law as well as past chair of the The Florida Bar’s Construction Law Certification Committee. He is also a fellow of the distinguished American College of Construction Lawyers.

Board-certified in Construction Law by The Florida Bar, Lesser devotes his practice at Becker & Poliakoff exclusively to construction law and litigation. Lesser also is a Florida Certified Circuit Civil Mediator focusing on complex construction matters involving defective work and delay-related claims and a certified arbitrator on construction issues for the American Arbitration Association.

Lesser is a graduate of the Ohio University and the Cleveland-Marshall College of Law.  He has received numerous awards and accolades throughout his career and is also very involved in charitable programs serving special needs children and young adults.
