Florida Bar Grants Board Certification in International Law to Attorney Jennifer Diaz

FT. LAUDERDALE, FL, June 8, 2012 – Becker & Poliakoff today announced that the Florida Bar has awarded Board Certification in International Law to Jennifer Diaz, the leader of the Firm’s Customs & International Trade Law Group.

Board certification is the Florida Bar’s highest level of recognition of an attorney’s competence and experience. Only attorneys who have earned the “board-certification” distinction are allowed to describe themselves as legal “specialists” or “experts” in a specific field of practice.  Ms. Diaz achieved certification in her first year of eligibility and is one of the youngest lawyers to be board certified in International law.

Ms. Diaz concentrates her practice in dealing with the complex laws and regulations relating to the import and export of merchandise to and from the United States. She has extensive experience in the legal issues governing customs law, international trade law, food, drug and cosmetic law, product licensing and intellectual property protection.

Ms. Diaz is rated “AV – Preeminent” by Martindale-Hubbell Law Directory – its highest rating –based on her years of experience and endorsement by her colleagues in the areas of professional conduct, ethics, and ability. She was also named “Rising Star” by Super Lawyers in 2012, a distinction given to only 2.5% of the lawyers in the state.

Ms. Diaz has experience working with federal agencies in Washington, D.C. and Miami, and assists clients in compliance with federal regulations and mitigation of enforcement.  Her experience includes work involving the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA), U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS), U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau (TTB).

Ms. Diaz was named 2011 “Member of the Year” by The Organization of Women in International Trade (OWIT) recognizing her outstanding contributions to the organization and commitment to advancing women in international trade and business. She received the Coral Gables Chamber of Commerce 2012 “Rising Star” Award, which designates outstanding young professionals who demonstrate excellence in their profession, as well as the community.

A Miami native, Ms. Diaz graduated from Miami Beach Senior High, University of Miami and Nova Southeastern’s Shepard Broad Law Center. She is an alumnus of the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce’s Leadership Miami program and serves on the Boards of OWIT-South Florida, Miami Council for International Visitors, Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals and Miami Beach Sister Cities, and is actively involved in the American Bar Association’s International Law Section.
