FT. LAUDERDALE, December 5 – Becker & Poliakoff is pleased to announce that Mario J. Bailey, a member of the firm’s government relations and lobbying team, has received an appointment from Governor Rick Scott to serve on the South Florida Regional Planning Council.
Composed of county and municipal elected officials and the Governor’s appointees, the 19-member Council is charged with identifying the long-term challenges and opportunities facing Southeast Florida and assisting the region’s leaders in developing and implementing creative solutions. The Council helps to determine policies that result in more prosperous and equitable communities, a healthier and cleaner environment, and a more vibrant economy.
Mr. Bailey works with clients from various sectors including business, municipal government and education. Prior to joining Becker & Poliakoff, he served as the Chief Legislative Aide to Florida State Representative Dwight M. Bullard. This experience taught him the intricacies of the legislative process, committee procedures, and helped him build strong ties to members of both parties and chambers.Mr. Bailey, who concentrates his practice on government relations and lobbying in South Florida and Tallahassee, fills a vacant seat on the Council. He will serve a term starting November 19, 2013, and ending October 1, 2016.
The Council is responsible for the coordination of multi-jurisdictional agency review of large-scale development projects, which may impact more than one County. These projects, known as Developments of Regional Impact (DRIs), are typically complex and require input from numerous reviewing agencies. The South Florida Regional Planning Council maintains a very active DRI program.
Mr. Bailey is a graduate of the University of Alabama. He is an alumnus of the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce’s Leadership Miami Program and is active in the Chamber and many civic and charitable organizations in Miami Dade County.
