Becker Shareholder Jie Chengying Xiu attended the International Leadership Foundation’s (“ILF”) three-day meeting and annual Gala Award event from July 27 to July 29 in Washington, D.C. Jie is a member of the ILF’s national advisory board.
The gala award event is one of the most prominent events for Asian-American politicians and businessmen. This year, the keynote speaker for the gala dinner was Maryland Governor Larry Hogan. U.S. Ambassador Katherine Tai, Ambassador Christopher P. Lu, and U.S. Representative Judy Chu also gave remarks.
The ILF’s annual global awards ceremony recognizes outstanding members in the APA community who have provided outstanding services to their communities. Awards are given to winners of different categories through rigorous judging processes. This year marks the twentieth anniversary of the ILF’s Leadership Awards. Past Awards Gala honorees and speakers include the Honorable Elaine L. Chao, Secretary of Transportation and former Secretary of Labor and the Honorable Norman Mineta, former Secretary of Transportation, former Secretary of Commerce, and Honorary ILF Chairman, among others. The ILF is a non-profit organization that promotes the civic awareness, public service, and economic effectiveness of the Asian American Pacific Islander (AAPI) community. Its Washington, DC Civic Fellowship is the nation’s most prestigious AAPI civic leadership development program. Each Fellow participates in the public service internships to learn how to network and access government program and public policy initiatives to help the AAPI communities. ILF also sponsors over one hundred additional college students each year for the Washington Leadership Program.
