In times of chaos and uncertainty, neighbors and communities band together. Becker Shareholder Jie Chengying Xiu is the Chairwoman of the Asian Financial Society, a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization. She has been leading a project of pooling free hotel rooms owned by Chinese Americans to supply to the National Guard as well as extend these facilities to hospitals. “The response to this proposal from Chinese American community is tremendous and we have quickly pooled thousands of such rooms and the number is still increasing by hour,” said Chengying. “We are also collaborating with various organizations to ship the supplies from Chinese mask manufacturers to hospitals in NY such as New York Presbyterian and Mount Sinai as the hospitals are having a shortage.” Chengying plans to continue to work with state leaders and community organizers to solve issues as they arise from the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19).
