Karen Skyers Named to the Crisis Center of Tampa Bay’s Board of Directors

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – November 17, 2017 – Karen Skyers, attorney with Becker & Poliakoff’s Government Law & Lobbying team, was chosen to join the Board of Directors of the Crisis Center of Tampa Bay. The nonprofit Crisis Center is Tampa Bay’s elite provider of crisis and trauma services, offering a range of evidence-based programs designed to meet community needs.

Skyers, a noted lobbyist in Tampa Bay and Tallahassee and an influential leader in the community, will work to expand upon the organization’s existing programs, which include suicide prevention and crisis counseling, trauma counseling and sexual assault survivor services, and emergency and mental health ambulance services.

“We are extremely fortunate to have Karen join the Crisis Center of Tampa Bay’s Board of Directors,” said Clara Reynolds, President & CEO of the Crisis Center. “The board plays a crucial role in the implementation of the Crisis Center’s five-year strategic plan. Karen’s legal, social service, and government relations expertise will help the organization ensure that no one in our community has to face crisis alone.”

At Becker & Poliakoff, Skyers works closely with clients to advocate for their issues before various government agencies and the state legislature. She has worked as a child protective investigator for the Florida Department of Children and Families, where she investigated alleged abuse, neglect and/or abandonment of children and successfully enabled the adoption of 26 children out of foster care and into homes.
