Steve Lesser is Recipient of Cornerstone Award – ABA Forum on Construction Law’s Highest Honor

Becker & PoliakoffFORT LAUDERDALE, FL – Becker is pleased to announce that Steve Lesser is the 2019 recipient of the Cornerstone Award, the highest honor presented by the American Bar Association Forum on Construction Law. The esteemed award recognizes a Forum member who has rendered long-term exceptional service to the construction industry, to the public, and to the legal profession.

Steve will receive the award at the Forum’s Annual Meeting, April 25th at the Diplomat Hotel in Hollywood, Florida. The Forum, comprised of approximately 6,000 members, is the largest organization of construction lawyers in the world.

“Steve is richly deserving of this award.  He is a tremendous leader and mentor, and has selflessly given of himself to advance the Forum on Construction Law and the greater profession,” said Thomas Rosenberg, Chair of the ABA Forum on Construction Law. “His professionalism and demonstration of the highest ethical standards are admired by all of us. An active member of the ABA, Steve presently serves as Chair of the 2019 Annual Meeting Program Planning Committee and is a member of the ABA Standing Committee on Specialization, a group charged with promoting and overseeing attorney certification programs. Additionally, Steve formerly served as Chair of the ABA Forum on Construction Law, Chair of the Task Force on the Contingent Fee for the Tort and Insurance Practice Section, and Past-Chair of the Special Standing Committee on Professionalism.

As Chair of Becker’s nationally renowned Construction Law and Litigation Practice, Steve devotes his practice exclusively to construction law and litigation, including governmental construction claims and defense, and hotel/condominium disputes. Notably, he is Florida Bar Board Certified in Construction Law and is one of only fourteen Florida attorneys to be inducted into the prestigious American College of Construction Lawyers.

Frequently recognized for his preeminence in the legal profession, he was named as the 2019 “Lawyer of the Year” in Construction Litigation by the Best Lawyers in America and is designated Band 1 in Construction Law by Chambers USA – the publication’s highest honor. In 2016, Steve was awarded The Florida Bar Real Property, Probate & Trust Law Section’s “Lifetime Achievement Award” in recognition of his excellence in the practice of construction law. Steve is presently Vice-Chair of the Florida Bar Board of Legal Specialization and Education that oversees all 27 areas of certification in Florida including construction law.

The Forum on Construction Law’s core focus is on the education and professional development of Construction Lawyers. Members represent all segments of the construction industry including owners, developers, design professionals, contractors, subcontractors, suppliers, construction managers, lenders, insurers, and sureties.
