Becker Means Broward: The Primary Election

In the first edition of Becker Means Broward, we promised to bring timely and important updates on developments at the Broward County Commission. The Primary Election yesterday provides us that opportunity as elections were held for County Commission Districts 6, 8, and 9. The results feature one incumbent and two new faces to the Commission. Additionally, Vice Mayor Lamar Fisher was up for reelection but ran unopposed. He will return for another four year term.  Here are the election highlights:

District 6

In Commission District 6, incumbent Commissioner Beam Furr was reelected to his third four year term. District 6 includes parts of Davie, Fort Lauderdale and Hollywood as well as Dania Beach, Hallandale Beach, Pembroke Park and West Park.

The District 8 seat has been won by Robert Mckinzie. Mckinzie, who is resigning from serving on the Fort Lauderdale City Commission, will fill the seat being vacated by Jared Moskowitz. District 8 spans parts of Coconut Creek, Fort Lauderdale, Lauderdale Lakes, Lauderhill, Margate, North Lauderdale, Oakland Park, Plantation, Pompano Beach, Tamarac, Wilton Manors and parts of unincorporated Broward County.

District 9

Mayor of Lauderdale Lakes and former State Representative, Hazelle Rogers, has been elected to fill the District 9 seat. District 9 is being vacated by Commissioner Torey Alston, who was a Gubernatorial appointee asked to complete the term vacated by the previous commissioner. District 9 covers all of Lauderdale Lakes and parts of Fort Lauderdale, Lauderhill, Oakland Park, Plantation, Sunrise and unincorporated areas.

All three Primary Winners will serve on the Commission as none face a General Election opponent. However, Commissioner Mark Bogen does face a Write-In Candidate and will appear on the November General Election ballot.

The Becker Team looks forward to working with all the Primary Election winners!
