Becker & Poliakoff Announces Legal Elite Winners

FT. LAUDERDALE, FL, August 9, 2011 – Becker & Poliakoff, P.A. announced that five of its attorneys were selected by Florida Trend magazine for inclusion in the 2011 Legal Elite listing. “Legal Elite” is a peer recognition program highlighting the top 2% of Florida lawyers. In its eighth year, the Legal Elite recognized 1,352 lawyers, as voted on by other Florida attorneys, who exemplify a standard of excellence in their profession.

Joseph AdamsAlan Becker and Steven Lesser were each selected as a member of the Legal Elite Hall of Fame which recognizes attorneys who have been Legal Elite winners in at least seven of the eight years that Florida Trend has conducted the balloting. All three Becker & Poliakoff attorneys earned Legal Elite distinction in each of the eight years.

Joseph Adams is the Managing Shareholder of the Firm’s Naples and Ft. Myers offices.  He concentrates his practice in Community Association Law, primarily representing condominium, cooperative, and homeowners’ associations, as well as country clubs, mobile home communities, and amenities associations, including marinas and golf courses. Mr. Adams has been very active in community association legislation and rulemaking and has drafted several pieces of legislation affecting community associations which have been adopted by the Florida Legislature.  Mr. Adams is the author of a weekly newspaper column called “Community Life,” that has appeared in the Real Estate Section of the Fort Myers News-Press since 1996.

Alan Becker is the Managing Shareholder of the Firm and one of the firm’s two founding principals. He leads the Firm’s Management Committee and has been responsible for the firm’s recent growth and expansion. Mr. Becker is also a member of the Bar of the Czech Republic —the first practicing attorney in Florida to be licensed there. Mr. Becker is the Chair–elect for the Beacon Council, Miami Dade County’s economic development organization.  A former State Legislator, he is also a member of Enterprise Florida’s Board of Directors and six-member Executive Committee.

Steven Lesser is Board Certified in Construction Law by the Florida Bar. He devotes his practice exclusively to construction law and litigation and has substantial experience representing owners, developers, contractors, design professionals, and government entities in a variety of construction cases. He was named “Construction Lawyer of the Year” for 2011 for South Florida by Best Lawyers in America, a peer review rating publication for legal professionals. He was one of only two lawyers in Florida to receive the designation and the only one in South Florida. Mr. Lesser chairs the Firm’s Construction Law & Litigation group which includes 17 Board Certified Construction attorneys throughout Florida. He is also a Florida Certified Civil Court Mediator.

Lisa Magill focuses her practice on the representation of condominium, homeowner, cooperative and other common interest realty associations. She has long been active on several Boards of Directors of the Community Associations Institute (CAI) where she has been a featured speaker on issues such as co-ownership housing laws, covenant enforcement, and association operations for Associations’ Board members, managers and other professionals in this field.
