The Fort Lauderdale City Commission on smart growth postponed a vote last night on the controversial Alexan-Tarpon River tower plan. Becker’s Jeremy Shir and Kevin Markow obtained major design modifications from the developer on behalf of their three condominium association clients that the city commission will now review and vote on the project’s fate on June 19.

The proposed high-rise has become a lightning rod issue for those seeking to keep the downtown area’s rapid growth in check. Immediately preceding last night’s hearing, Jeremy Shir told the SunSentinel that “Many residents have voiced their concerns over the [entrance and exit] utilizing a side road, potential turnarounds through Rio Vista, and acceptable level of service on Federal Highway and the side roads should this tower, which dwarfs the neighboring buildings, be approved.”
