Mission Complete! Becker’s Board Member Bootcamp Dubbed a Huge Success

After a four-year hiatus, Becker hosted a retreat for professionals at the Ritz-Carlton, Naples in April. The program featured guest speakers Judge Bernice B. Donald, Dr. Ericka Goodwin, a board-certified psychiatrist and bestselling author, and Bob Kendrick, President of the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum. Most importantly, the retreat afforded our people the opportunity to reconnect, face-to-face with colleagues from our New York, New Jersey, D.C., and Florida offices and reestablish a sense of community and camaraderie. The 2022 retreat will be hard to top but Becker intends to try next year when it celebrates its 50th anniversary!

On November 14, more than 150 board members and managers from across South Florida gathered in Davie for Becker’s ‘Board Member Bootcamp.’ Led by veteran community association attorneys Donna DiMaggio Berger, Howard Perl, and Kenneth Direktor, this military-themed boot camp provided a series of classes for continuing education credit and certificates of completion, fulfilling board members’ statutory board certification requirements.

The immersive course, featuring quizzes, live Q&A sessions, and prizes, was offered at no cost to all registrants. Classes and topics covered included “Negotiations 101: Avoiding Conflicts and Maintaining Stable Relations,” “Best Practices 101: Board and Committee Meetings, Elections, and Recalls; Official Records,” “Best Practices 201: Business Judgment, Identifying and Avoiding Fraud,” “Tactical Warfare: Strategies for Collection of Delinquent Accounts and Economic Survival,” and an “After-Action Report” that included a recap and a question/answer session.
