Becker is proud to announce the inaugural installment of the Alan S. Becker and Gary A. Poliakoff Preeminent Leaders in Law Speaker Series, an educational forum established in honor of the firm’s founding members. Becker, J.D. ’69, and Poliakoff, J.D. ’69, were distinguished alumni of the University of Miami School of Law and prominent leaders in the legal community.
This highly anticipated inaugural event will feature a candid conversation, facilitated by Becker Managing Shareholder Gary Rosen, with Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison. AG Ellison, the first Black and Muslim American to be elected to statewide office in Minnesota, most notably led the successful prosecution of former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin for the murder of George Floyd.
“It is an incredible honor to have Attorney General Ellison as our first featured guest in this series,” said Gary Rosen. “I believe both Alan and Gary would be proud of their namesake firm and alma mater for connecting influential leaders like AG Ellison with the next generation of lawyers.”
Hosted semi-annually, the Alan S. Becker and Gary A. Poliakoff Preeminent Leaders in Law Speaker Series will offer insight into the challenges, opportunities, and rewards of practicing law.
“The reality of AG Ellison’s experience as a multi-hyphenate American charged with upholding the highest standard of the law while under national, if not global, scrutiny will be invaluable to our students and attendees,” added Interim Dean and Visiting Professor Nell Jessup Newton.
The event will take place on Wednesday, October 6, 2021 at 6:00 p.m. EST at the Donna E. Shalala Student Center, 1330 Miller Drive, Coral Gables, FL 33146. The event is free but space is limited. Click here to RSVP by Wednesday, September 29, 2021.
