Congress Back in Town:

Congress returns to Washington this week down a Member after House lawmakers voted to expel now-former Rep. George Santos (R-NY). 

This week, the Chamber is set to take up 11 bills under expedited procedures, including those dealing with veterans benefits, federal energy research, and commuter rail benefits. House lawmakers will also vote on legislation aiming to block the Biden Administration’s regulations regarding tailpipe emissions and student loan income-driven repayment.

In the Senate, lawmakers are set to vote on judicial nominations.

Members in both Chambers are also set to hold committee hearings this week, including the following:

  • The House Committee on Transportation & Infrastructure will discuss the status and future needs of the Water Resources Development Act
  • The House Committee on Energy and Commerce will discuss energy independence strategies
  • The House Committee on Oversight and Accountability will examine the White House’s policy on AI
  • The Senate Environment and Public Works Committee will examine the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law’s investments in habitat and ecosystem restoration, pollinators, and wildlife crossings
