Becker’s Washington Weekly: Week of July 7

Congress Reconciles Reconciliation
Only Senators return to Washington this week after sending their reconciliation bill to the House for final passage – which it did last week in time for President Trump’s July 4th signing deadline.
The reconciliation law aims to advance the President’s tax, immigration, and defense priorities while repealing several Biden-era climate focused tax credits.
This week, lawmakers will begin to pivot to the FY26 appropriations cycle, with various markups scheduled for all 12 funding bills over the coming weeks ahead of the August recess and a September 30th government shutdown date.
With reconciliation behind them, lawmakers may also address the Trump Administration’s $9.4 billion rescissions package, mainly targeting cuts to foreign aid.
Finally, President Trump will welcome Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to the White House this week.
