Congress Closes Out June

The House and Senate return to Washington this week for the final time this month before breaking for the July Fourth recess.

Senators will continue their deliberations of their version of the reconciliation bill advancing President Trump’s tax priorities. However, that bill has since been trimmed down after the Senate Parliamentarian stripped out certain provisions dealing with Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits and other matters as non-germane under the Chamber’s reconciliation rules.

In the House, lawmakers return to a packed legislative agenda concerning State and Commerce Departments’ operations, product safety, domestic foreign investment regulations, and small business support.

Members may also take up a War Powers Resolution this week following the Trump Administration’s weekend strikes against Iranian nuclear facilities.

Meanwhile, both Chambers will gavel in several committee hearings this week, including the following:

  • The House Transportation & Infrastructure Committee will discuss American railroad innovation
  • The Senate Commerce, Science, and Transportation committee will consider the nomination of Bryan Bedford to lead the Federal Aviation Administration
  • The House Energy & Commerce Committee will hold an oversight hearing of the National Highway, Transportation & Safety Administration
  • The House Ways & Means Committee will examine the power of digital healthcare data
