Congress

The Senate is back in session this week while House Members are on recess. Senators are expected to take up a number of Administration nominees and a bill repealing a House-passed bill repealing a Biden Administration rule governing water and wetland protections. However, three Senators’ health-related absences may complicate the process.

Key nominations this week include those for Brent Neiman to be a deputy undersecretary at the Treasury Department and Eric Garcetti to be Ambassador to India.

The Senate will also conduct several committee hearings this week, including those receiving testimony from Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen Budget Director Shalanda Young on the Biden Administration’s recently-released FY24 budget.

The House will also hold hearings during their recess period, including those regarding the 2023 farm bill and management of the southern border.

The Administration

The Biden Administration is responding this week to the collapse of Silicon Valley Bank which has sparked broader concerns about the banking system.

After giving a Monday morning address on resiliency in the banking system, the President will travel to San Diego, CA to participate in a trilateral meeting with Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and U.K. Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, followed by two respective bilateral meetings with the leaders.
