Congress Reconciles
The House and the Senate both return to Washington this week as House lawmakers are set to advance their version of budget reconciliation containing all of President Trump’s immigration, defense, and tax priorities into a single bill – a departure from the Senate’s two-track strategy delaying tax provisions to later this year.
The House Rules Committee will meet today to set the terms of the floor debate for the resolution, which will kick off later this week.
Lawmakers will also consider legislation repealing various Biden-era emissions and efficiency regulations, in addition to several bills under expedited procedures dealing with small business operations and benefits.
Meanwhile, the Senate will take up the nominations of Daniel Driscoll to be Secretary of the Army and Jamieson Greer to be the United States Trade Representative.
Committee hearings set for the week will include the following:
- The House Financial Services Committee will consider policies to compete with China
- The Senate Environment and Public Works Committee will examine the implementation of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law
- The House Appropriations Committee will examine the state of the civil works program
- The Senate Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs Committee will discuss a bipartisan digital assets legislative framework
- The House Small Business Committee will discuss innovation in small business programs
