Becker’s Washington Weekly: Week of June 29
NDAA Week in the House
The Senate is out of session this week as House lawmakers return to Washington with hopes of passing the FY2027 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) and National Security-State appropriations bill.
The House Rules Committee will meet on Monday to consider three bills, including the NDAA. Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R-FL) submitted an amendment that would attach the SAVE America Act to the defense bill and has vowed to continue her blockade of the House floor for a second straight week if her amendment is ruled to be out of order. This could postpone floor consideration of the FY2027 National Security-State appropriations bill, which is also scheduled for a vote this week. Bills that may be considered under suspension of the rules include a four-bill energy and grid cybersecurity package, as well as a reauthorization of the Terrorism Risk Insurance Act.
Lawmakers in the House will convene committee hearings this week, including the following:
- The House Space, Science, and Technology Committee will discuss advancing America’s space weather capabilities.
- The House Committee on Homeland Security will hold a joint subcommittee hearing to assess the evolving threat landscape at America’s northern border.
- The House Committee on Appropriations’ Subcommittee on Financial Services and General Government will conduct an oversight hearing of the Office of Management and Budget.
- The House Committee on Education and the Workforce’s Subcommittee on Health, Employment, Labor, and Pensions will hold a hearing to discuss lowering health care costs.
- The House Committee on Small Business will examine small businesses and the American dream.
