Congress’ September Slog Continues
Congress is back in session for its second to last working week of the month before breaking for its October recess.
While lawmakers continue to debate a government funding package ahead of the September 30th shutdown deadline, the House returns to a packed legislative agenda for the week including bills concerning healthcare research, veterans’ benefits, and child welfare assistance.
Legislation moving through regular order deals with Environmental, Social, And Governance retirement investing, Israeli and Palestinian product labeling, and deportation procedures.
House and Senate members also have several committee hearings scheduled for the week, including the following:
- The House Foreign Affairs Committee will examine power competition in the Indo-Pacific Region
- The House Ways and Means Committee will discuss chronic disease prevention and treatment
- The Senate Judiciary Committee will hold an oversight hearing on AI
- The Senate Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs Committee will examine the macroeconomic impacts of potential tax reforms in 2025
